Academic Olympiad winners can enter university without entrance exams in Azerbaijan.
"Winners of the International Academic Olympiad can enter universities without taking their entrance exams," Youth and Sport Deputy Minister Intigam Babayev said at a press conference dedicated to the opening of Sixth International Junior Academic Olympiad in Baku.
According to the official, legislation allows winners of international academic competitions to universities without entrance exams in Azerbaijan.
International Academic Olympiad President Masna Ginting said contest aims to improve the interests of young people in a range of subjects. Azerbaijan won six bronze in the last two international competitions.
The Olympiad will be held in Baku Dec. 2-11 among pupils in physics, chemistry and biology. The event will be attended by 600 schoolchildren and their teachers from 49 countries.
Babayev said 15 children will represent Azerbaijan.
"A committee headed by Azerbaijani Diplomatic Academy Rector Hafiz Pashayev was created to organize the event in Baku. The committee prepared the questions and will assess the results of the Olympiad."
The Olympiad will be held in English. The event was held in Indonesia in 2004-2005, Brazil in 2006, Taiwan in 2007, and Korea in 2008.
