The first round of the International Science Olympiad, which was attended by 258 pupils, finished in Baku, the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan told Trend on Dec. 5.
At this stage, during three hours, pupils from participating countries answered tests covering biology, chemistry and physics.
"The second round of the Olympiad will be held on Dec. 6, during which participants will pass examinations on the theory, and on Dec. 8, will be held the last round in the form of the experimental tasks," the Ministry said.
Before each test, the teachers from the participating countries discuss the questions that were prepared by 30 Azerbaijani scientists. After the discussions over exercises of the first round, only one question was replaced because it was considered difficult for the 15-year-old schoolchildren.
Of the 258 participating pupils, 10 percent will gain gold, 20 percent - silver and 30 percent - bronze medals. A total of 160 participants will be awarded medals. In addition, the best country in the team game on practical exercises will receive the Olympiad Cup.
The pupils and teachers from 49 countries worldwide involved in the Olympiads that will last until Dec.11. The competition is held in English. Earlier in 2004-2005 Olympiad was held in Indonesia, in 2006 in Brazil, in 2007 in Taiwan, and in 2008 in Korea.
