Illegal religious literature seized in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.09 / Trend , K.Zerbaliyeva /

Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies seized illegal religious literature.

The Balaken Region Police Department and National Security Ministry conducted an inspection of the homes of Gullar village residents Ilfan Mahmuyev and his brother Kanan, who were suspected of propagandizing banned religious sects, the Interior Ministry's Press Service told Trend yesterday.

Forty-seven illegal books, 33 CDs, two video cassettes and six religious drawings were found during the inspection.

The religious literature is banned by the State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations.

The import of 59 books propagandizing religious intolerance was prevented in 2008.

An analysis of statistics from previous years showhes that less harmful religious literature is being imported and distributed in the country, State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations told Trend earlier.
