Azerbaijan to develop recommendations on civil society development

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 10 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /

Azerbaijan will develop recommendations on civil society development and submit them to the government.

The international conference on "Developing Relations Between Government and Civil Society" issued the decision today.

U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires Donald Lu, who is also attending the event, called the civil society situation in Azerbaijan satisfactory.

"Although certain limitations exist, there are also opportunities for civil society," he said.

According to European Council Secretary General's Special Envoy to Azerbaijan Veronica Kotek, developing a dialogue between government and civil society is a main indicator of a democratic state.

"Dialogue within civil society is very important," Kotek said.

According to human rights activist Sahib Mammadov, cooperation between NGOs and the government is widely developed in Azerbaijan.

"Today NGOs are also involved in the projects presented by the government," he added.
