Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 17 / Trend M.Aliyev /
The Azerbaijani Football Club wants victory at the Commonwealth Cup.
"We'll go to the tournament with our regular team and our goal is to play in the finals. If we reach the finals, then we will claim the cup," club Vice President Zeynal Mammadov told Trend Dec. 16.
The Baku football team will represent Azerbaijan at the Commonwealth Cup.
The club won first in its group, but lost to CSKA MOSCOW in the quarterfinals after a penalty shootout at the Commonwealth Cup in January 2007.
The tournament will start mid-January.
According to Mammadov, several players left the team following Bulent Gorkmaz's appointment as head coach. However, the club's playing power has not suffered.
"We have not had any problems after several footballers left the club," Mammadov said
"I'm sure a club representative will sign contracts with new players and we will put on a strong show," he said.
