Azerbaijan establishes Hydrometeorological and Environmental Research Center

Azerbaijan will open the Hydro-Meteorological and Environmental Research Center on the highest peak in the South Caucasus, Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry spokesman Irada Ibrahimova told Trend .

The center will study highland areas as ecosystems, microclimates, hydrological processes in mountain glaciers and climate changes and their impact on the environment and biodiversity.

"The ministry has constructed administrative buildings and infrastructure for employees to hold work in difficult climatic conditions at an altitude of about 3,000 meters," she said.

Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov will attend the opening ceremony this week.

The center was established in Azerbaijan in the northeastern section of the Greater Caucasus to implement President Ilham Aliyev's decree on "Measures for the Integrated Hydro-Meteorological and Ecological Research of the Bazarduzu-Shahdagh-Tufandag Greater Caucasus Ecosystem."
