Azerbaijan is successfully implementing the sport policy this year and 619 medals that the Azerbaijani athletes have won so far, testifies for it, Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said at the annual awards ceremony today.
According to Rahimov, Azerbaijan will hold outstanding sport events, including the Youth Olympic Games and sport competitions between the Black Sea region's countries.
At present, a number of Olympic complexes are being built in the country, Rahimov said
Araz club was awarded the best team of the year. The best intellectual team of 2009 is the national chess team.
The best referee is Faiq Hasanov
The Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation is the best federation of 2009
The best coach is Firdovsi Umudov(chief coach on free style fight )
Neftchi is the best sport organization of 2009
The Ministry has also announced other best awards
The best organizer of sports programs is the Public television
The best sports journalist is Tural Khudiyev (Space TV)
The best sports information agency is Azerisport Agency
The best athletes are Farid Mansurov, Elnur Mammadli, Teymur Rajabov (upon survey by day.az)
Active veteran-athlete is Mamed Guseinov (weightlifting)
The best sports historian is Dilgem Guliyev
The best sports publication is Youth and Sports Ministry monthly magazine
Active children's sports school is Lankaran sports school
The best gym is the Sports and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev
The most active sports projects promoter is AZTV.
The ministry announced the best sportsmen of 2009. They include Farid Mansurov (Greco-Roman wrestling), Alija Garayeva (gymnastics), Elmar Gasimov (judo), Ramil Guliyev (athletics), Nizami Pashayev (weightlifting), Maria Stadnik (wrestling), Vugar Gashimov (chess), Rashad Ahmadov (Taekwondo ), Valentina Demyanenko (rowing) and Hussein Hasanov (Paralympic sports)
