Nine pardoned foreigners were released by Azerbaijani President's pardon decree in Azerbaijan today.

Three prisoners released from Prison No 17 are Afghan citizens, and two are the citizens of Islamic Republic of Iran.

They will be transferred to their countries through the State Migration Service. These persons were charged for illegally crossing the state border (the Article 315 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code).

674 prisoners are kept in this prison. Twenty of them are foreigners.

The pardon decree, signed on Dec. 25 by President Ilham Aliyev, is generally applied on 99 prisoners.

Eighty-nine persons have been pardoned. They are prisoners sentenced to imprisonment, including three sentenced to limitation of freedom, six sentenced to the penalty in the form of fine. Three citizens of Afghanistan, two citizens of the Republic of Iran and citizens of Nigeria, Russia, China and Macedonia are also among the pardoned.

Unserved penalty of Azerbaijan Republic citizen Khatira Rahimova, who was sentenced to imprisonment by the verdict of Court for Serious Crimes, was decreased.

4,858 persons were released under 45 decrees signed since 1994, including 13 decrees signed by Ilham Aliyev and 32 by late President Heydar Aliyev. 40,000 prisoners were released in accordance with eight Acts of Amnesty.
