The Azerbaijani Press Council gets next complaints about racketeering of several newspapers.
"Complaints about five newspapers admittedly dealing with racketeering will be considered soon," the Azerbaijani Press Council executive secretary Rahim Huseynzade told Trend today.
In 2009, the Azerbaijani Press Council published a list of over 90 newspapers dealing with racketeering during different periods.
According to the Commission for Complaints, materials towards the following newspapers 'Nakhchivan Press, 'Criminal World', 'Radical', 'Eurotimes', 'Taran', Special Investigation', 'Media Azerbaijan' and 'Ideal' were submitted to the law-enforcement bodies for investigation.
Huseynzade said besides official appeals, the Council also gets complaints about different newspapers by phone. "We hear the names of several newspapers for the first time. On this regards, activity of these newspapers and complaints about them must be thoroughly studied," executive secretary said.
He said all complaints are submitted to a specially established commission of the Council. "A decision on newspapers admittedly dealing with racket will be made on the basis of a concrete conclusion of this commission," he said.
About 4,000 media outlets have been registered in Azerbaijan. At present, only 600 of them operate. About 400 newspapers and magazines are published. Eight republican TV channels, 14 regional TV and 13 cable televisions channels operate. There are approximately 50 e-media outlets, about 20 news agencies and internet resources in Azerbaijan.
