Azerbaijani-American Council sends letters to congressmen

The Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC) launched a campaign to send letters to the Senate and House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress, as well as U.S. President Barack Obama, on the eighteenth anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

Template letters prepared by the AAC include published references to Armenian commander and ASALA terrorist Monte Melkonian regarding the bloody deeds of his compatriots in Khojaly. A reference to Serj Sarkisyan's words in the famous book "Black Garden" by Thomas de Waal are also included.

Roughly 300 letters were sent over two days. The letters are sent automatically to congressmen and senators. The AAC plans to expand the campaign until the tragedy's anniversary to achieve the greatest number of applications in memory of the Khojaly victims. Letters to legislators also include a request to support an independent investigation of the Khojaly genocide.

In late February, the AAC, Azerbaijan Society of America and Assembly of Turkish-American Associations also plan to hold a traditional week of commemoration for victims of the Khojaly genocide in the U.S., which includes events and workshops in Washington, New York, San Francisco and Houston.
