A meeting with young activists was held today in Sumgayit.
Sumgayit's Executive Power head Vagif Aliyev met with young activists in connection with Youth Day which is celebrated Feb. 2 in Azerbaijan.
Aliyev spoke about the history of Youth Day, which has been celebrated for 13 years. National leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to aiding youths. On Feb. 2, 1996, he signed a decree on celebrating today as Youth Day at the First all-Republican Youth Forum of Azerbaijan.
This was another important step in organizing the republic's young activists and increase their role in the development of Azerbaijani statehood, President Ilham Aliyev said.
He added that Azerbaijan is implementing a successful youth policy, allowing youths to receive their education abroad free and offering them cheap loans on homes.
Sumgayit is a city of young people, and youth must participate in public life, he said.
Chief of the Sumgayit Head Youth and Sports Department Musa Hasanov provided detailed information on youth policy in 2009.
