Tashkent to host Asian Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics

About 150 sportsmen from 12 countries will take part in the eleventh Asian Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics, to be held in Tashkent on February 14-20.

Sportsmen from China, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Singapore, Qatar, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Syria and Malaysia, and Uzbekistan were selected as a result of the qualifying rounds on age criteria - under 15 years and the qualifications for participation in the tournament. The program includes competition in individual and group exercises with a rope, hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon, as well as team compositions.

Gymnasts will compete for joining Singapore's first Olympic Games among the youth to be held in 2010.

According to the Secretary General of Uzbek Gymnastics Federation Gisela Philippova, three permits for Youth Olympic Games in the championship will be drawn.

In early 2009, the delegation of the Asian Federation of Gymnastics, headed by its President Rakhmon al-Shahri visited Tashkent. They got familiarization with the opportunities created in Uzbekistan for the promotion of gymnastics. In particular, the guests appreciated the Palace of Sports "Universal", which was built specifically for all kinds of gymnastics, and expressed confidence that the Asian Championship will be held at a high level.

Names of winners will be announced at a gala show on February 19.
