Azerbaijani Press Council to hold events

Azerbaijani Press Council will hold a series of events dedicated to the 135-th anniversary of the national press.

"On the occasion of the 135-th anniversary of the national press, it is planned to hold a large event in the palace Gulistan on July 21," the Press Council told Trend on Thursday.

About 4,000 media outlets were registered in Azerbaijan. Currently only 600 of them function. Nearly 400 newspapers and magazines are published and more than 20 television channels function. There are about 50 electronic media outlets, 20 news agencies, and the rest are the Internet resources in Azerbaijan.

There will be conferences related to the history and urgent problems of national press. It is important to solve these problems. "Moreover, celebrations in different regions are also planned to be held", the report said.

On the eve of the 135-th-anniversary of the national press, the Council is expected to apply to the relevant state bodies to pardon imprisoned journalists. "The Council applied to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev due to awarding of media representatives," the report said.
