Uzbek and Japanese scientists will create a joint scientific society. The announcement was made at the Uzbek-Japanese international symposium on "Ancient Civilizations and Religious of Uzbekistan - Searching for Roots of Japanese Culture," which was held upon the initiative of the Uzbek Fund Forum of Culture and Art at leading Japanese universities Feb. 15-18.
The events gathered over 1,200 representatives of academic and public circles of Uzbekistan and Japan. The events were held at Tokyo Orientalism University and Nara University and organized in partnership with the Uzbek Forum of Culture and Art, Japanese university administrations, a Japanese-Uzbek archeological expedition, the Uzbek Academy of Sciences and the Uzbek Embassy in Japan.
The symposium became the first international project dedicated to 1,300th anniversary of Nara city and received the status of a special jubilee project.
The participants considered unique Buddhism monuments in Uzbekistan, the culture of the Great Silk Road, and the impact of Baktriya, Sogd, Khorezm and Ferghana-Chach civilizations in forming a global culture and religion.
Academic Edward Rtveladze tutored at the symposium.
The symposium created a new initiative to establish the scientific society "Oxus" under Kyudzo's leadership.
A similar symposium will be held in Termez in November 2010.
