Azerbaijan, Slovakia develop legal cooperation

Azerbaijan and Slovakia develop legal cooperation.

Feb.23-25, Azerbaijani Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov paid an official visit to Slovakia upon his Slovak Counterpart Viera Petrikova's invitation.

The minister's meeting noted the existence of broad prospects for development of Azerbaijani-Slovak cooperation in the legal field, the Justice Ministry told Trend .

The meeting exchanged views on the activities in the field of justice and judicial activities, provided information on the wide-ranging judicial reform in Azerbaijan, and also discussed issues such as the activities of the Justice Academy, training of judges and candidates for the refereeing, execution of court rulings and the formation of administrative justice.

Following the meeting the ministers attended a media briefing on which was expressed interest in development of the Azerbaijani-Slovak relations in the legal field, as well as receive information on reforms to modernize the court system and judiciary in Azerbaijan.

During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation held meetings with the Slovak Attorney General and the leadership of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, which discussed the productive implementation of justice and issues of cooperation, as well as conducted a rational exchange of views.

The delegation familiarized with the activities of the Slovak Justice Academy, as well as working conditions for lower courts to give effect exchanges in connection with steps taken towards improving the judicial infrastructure in Azerbaijan. The delegation met with judges and exchanged views on the productive activities of the judicial system.

In May 2009, the Slovak Justice Minister visited Azerbaijan and the sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
