Dagestan's capital of Derbent has hosted a scientific conference on the "Kitabi Dede Gorgud" epic organized by the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with the Diaspora, together with the Dagestan Branch of the All-Russian Congress of Azerbaijanis.
Speaking at the conference, Derbent Acting Mayor Imam Yaralov noted the importance of the conference from the viewpoint of studying the city's ancient history.
Azerbaijan attaches significant importance to relations with Russia, and all its federal divisions, including Dagestan, the committee's deputy department head Elnar Mammadov said.
Local and the Azerbaijani scientists spoke at the conference held with the support of the Derbent Cultural Management, Derbent Institute for Arts and Culture, and Dagestan State University's Derbent Branch.
Some scientists have said evidence exists that Dede Gorgud lived in Derbent.
Participants visited the area where Dede Gorgud was allegedly buried.
