Council chairman: Azerbaijan’s private television channels can be financed by state in future

Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.19 / Trend, M.Aliyev /

National Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan (NBCA) doesn't exclude funding of private television channels from the public budget.

"It's possible to render state support to private television channels in the future," Nushirevan Maharramli, chairman of the National Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan (NBCA) told Trend today.

Azerbaijan has eight country-wide channels, 14 regional and 13 radio channels.

However, at this stage, Maharramli doesn't see any need in state funding of private channels.

"There is a big difference between the periodical press and private television channels, because just television plays major role in informing the population. Regarding with this situation advertising on TV is much better than in the press," Maharramli said.

In this regard, in particular the state support is needed is the periodical press, he added.
