The ceremony to award winners of "The best research work of young scientists in the field of Arabic philology" traditional contest timed to the birthday of the founder of the Arabic Literature School in Azerbaijan, Ph.D Aida Imanguliyeva, was held in Baku on Friday.

The State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs organized this competition among graduate students, Ph.D candidates and young scientists of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani Scientific School was one of the top three in the former Soviet Union, the rector of the Baku branch of the M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University, Nargiz Pashayeva, said at a press conference on the event.

"This event is addressed to a new generation of young scientists of Azerbaijan," Pashayeva said.

A new generation of Azerbaijani scientists must reach the scientific peaks, which the previous generation did not achieve, she said.

"The contest to identify the best works of the Azerbaijani young scientists will become a tradition and it will be held in 2011, too", Pashayeva added.

State Committee Chairman Hijran Huseynova said this contest will have a positive impact on the development of scientific activities in Azerbaijan

"I would like to see the young scientists to consider as an honor the participation in the competition held in honor of Aida Imanguliyeva," Huseynova said.

Azerbaijani MP Govhar Bakhshaliyeva said the competition dedicated to Aida Imanguliyeva raises the interest of young Azerbaijani scientists to research activities.

"Mrs.Imanguliyeva played an important role in the development of science in Azerbaijan," she said. "She is the author of many scientific papers, which even today are the focus of academic Orientalists."

Professor Aida Imanguliyeva left behind a rich scientific legacy that has enriched the Azerbaijani Orientalism, the dean of the spiritual faculty of the Baku State University, Vasim Mammadaliyev, said.

"Holding such a contest would have a positive impact on young scientists. Mrs. Imanguliyeva's life and work will be good example for them," Mammadaliyev said.
