The 14th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) has begun in Istanbul today. The four-day summit was organized by Turkey's 90-year-old largest state news agency Anadolu.

The 14th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) has begun in Istanbul today. The four-day summit was organized by Turkey's 90-year-old largest state news agency Anadolu.

Representatives from big news agencies from over 40 countries, as well as several heads of international organizations and leading experts, are attending the top meeting of the organization.

TREND News Agency Director General Ilgar Huseynov and International Cooperation Director Elchin Huseynov are participating in the event.

The participants gathered at a session of the editorial and technical committees on the first day of General Assembly. The main theme of the discussions is expanding cooperation between leading news agencies and discussing the ways of sharing experience and multimedia products. The Assembly will consider transferring the presidency in OANA to Anadolu Agency and admitting new members into OANA.

OANA was formed in 1961 upon the initiative of UNESCO. Today OANA brings together 40 news agencies from 33 countries. OANA's supreme body is the General Assembly held every three years. The Indonesian agency Antara is OANA's president for the last three years.
