Azerbaijan, Baku, April 10 / Trend, T. Hajiyev /

The Azerbaijani National Council for Radio and Television (NTRC) and Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will check the situation with the use of literary language on television channels, NTRC Chairman Nushirevan Maharramli told Trend.

"The Linguistics Institute operates under the ANAS. We have discussed this issue with the ANAS President Mahmud Kerimov and came to the decision to work together. We believe that based on opinions of the Linguistics Institute and NRTC specialists certain actions may be taken," Maharramli said.

He said it is possible to launch the project of the State Support for Media Development Fund and examine the situation relating to the preservation of the literary Azerbaijani language on television and radio channels.
Maharramli said that the literary language should be protected on television and radio channels.

"I believe that this issue is very important. The Council's position on it is as following: a literary language should be protected on television and radio channels. Hosts should always obey the rules. This is a very serious issue," Maharramli said.
He also talked about the reasons for difficulties in combating such negative cases.
"There is a law on language in Azerbaijan, but it does not indicate responsibility for its violation. There is no legal mechanism. But the legal framework is needed so that we can take actions," Maharramli said.

At the parliamentary meeting on Friday the Deputy Speaker Bahar Muradova voiced protest against the violation of literary language norms on the air.
