Iran will bring the literacy rate of population to 100 percent by 2015, representative of Iran Ministry of Education Munira Muvahhidi told Trend. She was participating in the UNESCO meeting in Baku

"Iran was working hard to improve the literacy level. Thus, according to a UNESCO report, the literacy rate rose from 86.3 per cent to 93.8 per cent in Iran from 1990 to 2000," Muvahhidi said.

According to Muvahhidi, this year spiritual leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has instructed to bring the literacy rate in the country to 100 percent. Measures are taken in this direction as part of the five-year development plan covering the period from 2011 to 2015.

According Muvahhidi, large opportunities were created at schools for education of girls after the Iranian Islamic revolution in educational institutions of country. "The education program of Iran was developed in 1988. Its priority was education of girls, and the Ministry was instructed to pay much more attention to this issue," Muvahhidi said.

According to Muvahhidi, this year 61 percent of students who entered universities were women. This indicator shows how much importance is attached to the issue of girls' education in Iran.
In general, more than 60 percent of working in the educational institutions of Iran are women, she added.

According to Iranian media, over 1,250,000 students appealed to participate in entrance examinations to universities this year and 600,000 of them entered universities.
