Azerbaijan starts investigation against traffic police officers

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.10 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /

An investigation launched into a video showing traffic police officers taking bribes published on the Internet.

The officers work for the Department of the State Traffic Police of Baku, Kamran Aliyev, chief State Traffic Police Office official, told Trend on Tuesday.

"During the investigation names of the officers will be established," Aliyev said.

Over 30 traffic police officers were dismissed from interior bodies because of corruption offences in 2011, Mr Aliyev said.

Information on traffic police officers who committed corruption offences last year was sent also to the Prosecutor General's Office, which launched investigations.

In order to ensure transparency in this field, amendments were made to the legislation. According to these amendments 25 per cent of funds arising from payment of fines are added to the wages of traffic police officers.

The video published on the Internet shows traffic police officers taking bribes from drivers.
