Over the past five years Azerbaijan has prevented attempts on non-disclosure of customs payments in the amount of over $1.984 million, more than 26.269 million Russian rubles, 213,100 euros to the state budget, as well as smuggled goods worth one million manat, Guloglan Muradli, Head of the State Customs Committee's Main Department for Combating Customs Offenses, told Trend on Saturday.
He said six firearms, more than 43.5 kilograms of mercury, 6,898 mobile phones, 163 kg of caviar, more than 10.606 million cigarettes, 524 liters of alcohol, 48,504 units of alcoholic beverages and other products have been seized over the past five years.
Those violating the law were fined in the amount of more than 6.434 million manat, products worth almost 1.526 million manat were seized from them. Attempts to evade customs duties to the state budget were also prevented.
During 2007-2011, customs authorities revealed 47,621 facts of offences, these cases were investigated and the perpetrators were punished.
