After the earthquakes in the Zagatala area, the State Commission for Emergency Situations conducted a survey of 5074buildings, deputy head of the regional executive body, chairman of the regional commission on emergency Elman Ramazanov said.

Ramazanov noted that during the inspection it was found that 1993 buildings are in an emergency situation and it was decided to rebuild them again.

The Commission concluded that restoration and fortification works will be carried out on 864 buildings, 1037 will be renovated, the state of 1810 buildings was found to be satisfactory.
Ramazanov said construction of schools in the Manyrh and Gezbarah villages and Zagatala city school No2 have already begun. He noted that 14 out of 49 schools, which are in an emergency situation, will be rebuilt.

Ramazanov added that the number of damaged buildings which is necessary to repair can increase after the commission will be completed.

Some 612 homes were destroyed and 7317 homes and 236 community facilities are in emergency state as of May 21.

Some 7938 families have been resettled from the destroyed homes. Some 6919 families are placed in 4787 the tents while 1019 families are placed in other locations. The electricity supply to the homes and facilities in emergency areas is shut down.

Zagatala is located in the north-west of Azerbaijan in 411 km from Baku. The first and the most powerful earthquake of magnitude 7 occurred on May 7. There was another strong earthquake of magnitude 6 in Zagatala on May 18.
