Zagatala, which in early May was hit by a strong earthquake, will have new homes built and delapidated homes restored, Azerbaijani Emergencies Minister Kamaladdin Heydarov told reporters on Friday.

He said houses that cannot be restored will be demolished and rebuilt.

Most houses have cracks and other problems, these homes will also be repaired. In Zagatala, Balakan, Gakh and Shaki regions some schools will be built from scratch. House under the threat of collapse are already being demolished, construction of a number of facilities began.

First, the most powerful tremors hit Zagatala region on May 7.

From 7 to May 15 earthquake destroyed 485 houses, while 6464 houses in 56 settlements and 204 social facilities came into the emergency state, the region's executive power told Trend earlier.

Some 6,949 families, whose homes were destroyed, were temporarily placed in tents - 3,980 families and in other places.

Zagatala is located to the northwest of Azerbaijan 411 km from Baku.
