The Azerbaijani National Council for Television and Radio (NCTR) has revealed serious shortcomings in speeches of anchormen during the monitoring of television programs.

Serious problems, linked with the use of literary Azerbaijani language exist in the speeches of TV anchormen, the NCTR chairman Nushiravan Maharramli said at the meeting on Thursday.

"Our concern is that they do not speak the literary Azerbaijani language, they speak the common language. Sometimes they use a lot of foreign words in one sentence," Maharramli stated.

The monitoring was carried out by NCTR and specialists from the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi in the framework of the "Protection of literary language in TV and Radio sphere in Azerbaijan" project on ANS, Khazar, ATV, Lider and Space TV channels in order to determine how television and radio broadcasters comply with the norms of the literary language.

Monitoring of TV programs on television channels was held by the research associates of Azerbaijani Institute of Linguistics Natavan Abbasova and Ayten Huseynova.

Monitoring has shown that the most serious violations are made by the anchormen of entertainment programs.

"The anchormen working in show business field should also be professional," the NCTR Chairman added.
