Seven Iranian drug lords who were wanted internationally and supplied drugs to various world countries have been arrested for the last ten days, Deputy Secretary General of Iran's Drug Control Headquarters Taha Taheri was quoted on Saturday by Iranian news agency MEHR as saying.
Drug lords have been in the international search and hiding in neighboring countries for a long time, Taheri said.
Around 23 drug smugglers have been arrested for the past two months, he added.
He said that Iran erected a wall on the border with Afghanistan to suppress drug trafficking.
"We still have difficulties in the fight against drugs," he said. "Around 1.5 tons of drugs are revealed and confiscated per day."
