The Public Council for Youth under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Youth and Sports held a meeting on Monday, following which, a statement has been accepted to support President Ilham Aliyev as a candidate for the country's presidency.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Social and Political Department, Ali Hasanov and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev, experts discussed the main directions of registered non-governmental organizations' activities in the sphere of youth, as well as issues on the agenda.

In his speech at the opening of the event, chairman of the Council Nuraddin Mehdiyev spoke about the role of youth in social and political life of the country, about the state's care and attention towards youth.

"President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the youth policy, foundation of which was laid by National Leader Heydar Aliyev," Mehdiyev said. "Azerbaijan is one of the few countries fulfilling the youth policy."

According to Mehdiyev, today Azerbaijan retains its role and position among the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe.

He also added that youth owns important qualities for social and political life of the community.

"Thanks to the efforts of the state, today hundreds of young Azerbaijanis are studying in foreign countries. And the number of young people working in state structures has increased significantly," Mehdiyev underscored.

Deputy Chairman of the Council Gulsel Safarova in her speech spoke about international organizations' biased reports against Azerbaijan.

"A number of international organizations, like "Amnesty International" and "Human Rights Watch", prepare reports on Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh, based on distorted facts," Safarova said.

She noted that such reports serve the interests of certain political circles who are anxious about Azerbaijan's development.

The event also stressed the President's efforts to fight corruption, as well as the opening of the centers of the "ASAN Service".

"Our country's achievements in foreign policy, including the fact that Azerbaijan is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, clearly prove everything. We, young people, fully support the successful foreign and domestic policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev," Safarova said.

The Chairman of the Public Association "In the name of Democratic Azerbaijan" Elmeddin Behbud, Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Youth Friendship Society Reshkhan Garashli and other participants of the event in their speeches touched upon the themes of youth participation in the social and political life of the country, reaction of young people as an active part of civil society to international organizations' reports about Azerbaijan, the organization of communication, personal development, social activities of young people, participation in public life, including the responsibility of young people, as well as the socio-political processes.

Young people expressed their full support for the policy of President Ilham Aliyev. They called the entire Azerbaijani youth to vote for Ilham Aliyev at the upcoming presidential elections.

At the conclusion of the event a statement was made to support President Ilham Aliyev as a presidential candidate.
