Chairman and members of governing board of Azerbaijani Press Council elected

On Thursday, the participants of the VI Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists re-elected Aflatun Amashov as the chairman of Azerbaijan's Press Council. In addition, a new governing body of the Press Council which includes 17 full and five reserve members was elected.

On Thursday, the participants of the VI Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists re-elected Aflatun Amashov as the chairman of Azerbaijan's Press Council. In addition, a new governing body of the Press Council which includes 17 full and five reserve members was elected.

Eight of the active members represent print outlets, three - Internet news portals, and six - public. Two reserve members represent print media outlets, two public, and one represent Internet news portals.

Aflatun Amashov (233 votes), Vugar Rahimzade (219 votes), Umid Mirzayev (217 votes), Rashad Majid (201 votes), Bakhtiyar Sadigov (198 votes), Tapdig Abbas (162 votes), Aydin Guliyev (133 votes), Rauf Arifoglu (127 votes) were elected from the print outlets to the governing board of the Council

The director of the State Fund for the Support of Mass Media Vugar Safarli (223 votes), member of the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan Agil Abbas (190 votes), chairman of the Journalists' Trade Union Mushfig Aleskerli (188 votes), member of parliament Javanshir Fayziyev (134 votes), dean of the Journalism faculty of Baku State University Shamil Veliyev (129 votes), member of parliament Musa Gasimli (125 votes) were elected from the public. Ilham Ismayilov (116 voyes) and Nasir Ahmedov (110 votes) were elected from public to reserve.

Vusala Mahirgizi (298 votes), Rasim Amirguliyev (260 votes) and Azer Hasret (175 votes) were elected from the Internet news portals, and Sevda Hamidova (167 votes) was elected to the reserve.

In addition, changes were made to the charter of the Press Council by a majority of votes at the Congress. According to the changes, the organization alongside considering the complaints related to newspapers, magazines and news agencies will also control the issues that cause dissatisfaction with the activity of online media portals.
