Iran needs to conduct thorough scientific research to prevent the ageing of the population, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's address to the participants of the conference entitled 'Demographic changes and their role in the transformation of society' said on Thursday, official Iranian news website Iribnews reported.
According to the report the conference was held in the Iranian city of Qom on Thursday.
"I believe that our scientists will be able to find solutions to this problem. It is necessary to find the causes of low fertility in families and creation of a family at old age. It is necessary to solve such problems as an apartment, job and income sources that are needed for the youth to create a family," the Supreme Leader's address said.
According to him, Iran's population is 75 million, but there is potential to bring it up to 150 million.
Earlier, the Iranian Ministry of Health announced about the dangers of the population aging in the country.
