Ankara urges Turkish doctors abroad to return home

Ankara urges Turkish doctors abroad to return home due to the acute shortage of doctors in the country, Turkish Minister of Health Mehmet Muezzinoglu was quoted today by Turkish Sabah newspaper as saying.

"At present, more than 2000 Turkish doctors are working in foreign countries," he said. "Turkey currently needs more than 20,000 doctors."

Earlier, the Health Minister stated that some 7000 doctors were invited to work in Turkey due to the economic crisis in Greece.

Around 68 Azerbaijani doctors have started working in Turkey's public health area this year.

Around 443 foreign doctors applied to the ministry to work in Turkey's public health area in 2013.
