Head of Sederek Customs Department Mirmahammad Seyidov was detained in relation to the latest corruption scandal in Turkey, according to the message of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic's permanent representative office in Baku.

"While on vacation the head of the Sederek Customs Department Mirmahammad Seyidov departed for Istanbul on December 9, 2013, in connection with the medical treatment of his family members. On Dec. 17 Seyidov, together with his family members, was returning on a flight from Istanbul to Kars, and was detained by police upon arrival at the airport. He was taken to the prosecutor's office of the Igdir province to clarify some information related to the detention of several Turkish officials," according to the message.

Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkey and the country's consulate general in Kars are taking the necessary measures for the speedy solution of the problem, the permanent representative office of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic said.

The State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan is also clarifying the reasons for Seyidov's detention. It was reported that one of the employees of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan was present when Seyidov was giving testimony.

Earlier, Turkish media outlets reported on the arrest of several persons in connection with a corruption scandal, and those arrested included Mirmahammad Seyidov.
