Demining is currently underway on the territory allocated for the construction of oil and gas processing and petrochemical production complex.

The project for the complex' construction takes place in accordance with the schedule, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) told Trend. It is envisaged to conduct land-construction works on the territory allocated for construction of the complex and to send construction machinery to the area.

Certain part of this territory belonged to the USSR's Baku Air Defence Ddistrict (30 hectares) and the Caspian Fleet of the Defence Ministry (50 hectares). Currently, checks are underway at the area for detection of unexploded mines and ammunition.

Local and international experience was taken into account and the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) conducts a detailed study. ANAMA held operations on a territory of 30 hectares and works have already begun in an area of ​​50 hectares.

It should be noted that several unexploded military ordnance has already been found in the territory. They were defused. Demining is scheduled to be conducted at the area for six months.
