Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.14
By Ilhame Isabalayeva - Trend:

Azerbaijan was elected a chair of the Finance and Operational Performance Committee
of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which is one of the major international financial institutions.

Azerbaijan will chair for two years (2014-2015 years) and be represented by deputy chairman of the commission for coordination of international health projects under the ministry, Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya Foundation executive director, Soltan Mammadov.

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has operated in the country since 2002 and is the most important international financial institution to combat these three diseases, Mammadov told Trend on Jan.13.

The fund provides financial assistance to 140 countries to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
Since 2005, the Foundation has collaborated with the Ministries of Health and Justice of Azerbaijan and provided financial assistance to the country in the fight against these diseases.
The main decision-making body of the Global Fund is the Board of Directors, which consists of regional representatives and those from international organizations, representing all countries of the world. The Board, based on the decisions discussed and proposed by three main committees, takes a decision to provide financial assistance to countries.
