Older people aged over 65 accounted for 7.7 percent of Turkey's population in 2013, Turkish Statistical Institute said on March 19.

The number of older people in the country will increase to 10.2 percent in 2023, 20.8 percent in 2050 and 27.7 percent in 2075, according to the country's statistical institute.

The older people in the country are mainly concentrated in the cities of Sinop and Kastamonu, where they account for 16 percent of the population, according to the statistical institute.

Older people account for maximum three percent of the population in the cities of Van, Hakkari and Shirnak.
