European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) was confident of success, attributing the 30th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships to Baku, according to the UEG President Georges Guelzec.

Guelzec made the remarks on June 13 at the opening ceremony of the 30th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

"By attributing this event to Azerbaijan Federation and its Local Organising Committee, the European Union of Gymnastics with its technical committee, chaired by Heide Bruneder, was more than confident that this event would be a great success," he said.

"These Championships are also special due to the fact that they are qualifying for the groups in view of the 1st European Games to be organized here in Baku next year."

Guelzec also thanked the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, the Organising Committee and all the volunteers who have worked with immense commitment during the past several months to make this important event a great success.

"I wish all the best to the gymnasts and I am sure that the numerous participating nations and the large number of spectators will experience some exciting competition days here in the capital of Azerbaijan," he stressed.

"But now, let's leave the floor to the gymnasts. On behalf of the European Union of Gymnastics, I declare open these 30th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships here in Baku."
