At least five people were killed and 35 others injured during a storm that hit the Iranian south eastern province of Khuzestan.

Hashem Baldi, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Organization said that the storm occurred on Aug 19 night, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on Aug. 21.

The wind was reportedly up to 90 kilometres per hour, the official said.

Baldi added that one person was killed in Andimeshk city, one in Baghmalek, and three other is Dezful.

The mentioned people died by accidents, such as falling from height, wall collapse, and falling of trees.

As a result of the storm, some electricity lines were damaged in some parts of the Khuzestan province. So far, the damages inflicted on houses and infrastructure have not been estimated, according to Hashem Baldi.

Iran is often hit by storms, mostly dust storms, as five more people have been killed in another storm on June 2 in Tehran. In recent years, dust storms in Iran have raised concerns over the air pollution levels in some cities, raising the particulates concentration to 9 times greater than standard levels.

Heavy storms in Iran force the authorities to close governmental offices, as well as educational and industrial centers in the country.
