Georgia, Tbilisi, Nov. 19 / corr Trend News N.Kirtzkhalia

The OSCE representative on media independence complained that pluralism is lacking in the South Caucasus.

The levels of democracy vary in the three South Caucasus countries, OSCE Representative Miklosh Harashti said at a conference that opened in Tbilisi today.

Georgia has media problems related to television owner transparency, television budgeting and political pluralism, which should be resolved through legislative changes..

The sixth South Caucasus media conference is organized by the OSCE office and dedicated to media independence in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to Harashti, media independence is is impossible if journalistic skills are not improved.

Even the most perfect legislation cannot ensure media independence if there is no pluralism in media, Harashti said.
