The United Nations' top coordinator for humanitarian affairs, John Holmes, will leave his post in September, a UN spokesman said Thursday.
Holmes has informed UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that he has accepted a new assignment in London and will leave on September 1, said Martin Nesirky. Holmes was a former British ambassador to France.
Holmes, who holds the title of UN undersecretary general, has been prominent in leading humanitarian assistance in several crises, including in Haiti after that nation was hit by the magnitude-7 earthquake on January 12.
