In Istanbul, one of the leaders of the Syrian National opposition coalition Hassan Hitt was elected the head of the provisional government of Syrian rebels in those parts of the country that are under the control of the opposition, getting 35 votes out of48.
For two years Syrian government forces have been clashing with the armed opposition. According to UN data, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria has exceeded 70,000 with about three million people in need of humanitarian aid. Syrian officials claim that they are opposed by well-armed militants.
