Analysis Materials 12 February 2015 15:25 (UTC +04:00)

The measures for state support for the agricultural sector were still conducted in 2014. The additional benefits to the producers were applied. Currently, around 19 large farms are being established with the state support in the areas exceeding 30,000 hectares in 12 districts to effectively use the agricultural land plots and water resources.

As a result of the recent measures, Azerbaijan provides itself with the main food.

Commissioning of the Shamkirchay reservoir created great opportunities for using new land plots. A private pilot agricultural park was founded in Shamkir district. It is planned to organize the production, processing, packaging of agricultural products, to render the logistics services and to supply the finished goods to the country's markets for sale and export. A master plan is being prepared to establish an agricultural park in Khizi district through the Samur-Absheron irrigation system. The recent work in the agricultural sector created an opportunity to increase the export of fruits to 12.5 percent, vegetables - to 28.6 percent for 11 months of 2014.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, agricultural output at current prices amounted to 5.226 billion AZN in Azerbaijan in 2014, decreasing by 2.6 percent compared to 2013.

According to the report, livestock production decreased by 8.3 percent, crop production increased by 3 percent for the period.

According to the preliminary data, Azerbaijan collected 2.383 million tons of grain (including maize) from a 992,700 hectare area in 2014 or by 19.4 percent less compared to 2013. The grain yield was 24 quintals per hectare in 2014.

Around 60.8 percent of cereals produced in 2014 accounted for wheat (1.449 million tons), 8.5 percent - corn (203,600 tons).

Moreover, around 2,900 tons of tobacco leaf (dry weight), as well as 41,000 tons of raw cotton were collected during the reporting period.

The farms produced 849,900 tons of fruits and berries (by 0.5 percent less than in 2013), 147,700 tons of grape (a 0.6 percent less during a year) and 472.2 tons of tea leaves.
