US resumes duty-free import of Azerbaijani goods

Azerbaijani exporters will be able to import goods in the territory of the United States on preferential terms or without paying customs duty until 2018, said the message of Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO), published on its website.

The changes are provided in the act adopted by the US Congress to extend the program "Generalized System of Preferences" (GSP).

This act extends the right to use the GSP program until December 31, 2017, said the message. The act came into force on July 29, 2015 and these benefits will be also applied to goods imported into the United States since the period of the loss of power of the previous act [July 31, 2013]. Accordingly, the exporters will be able to get back the customs duties paid for goods delivered to the US in the period from July 31, 2013 to July 29, 2015, said the message.

Azerbaijan, Iran vow to accelerate alternative energy projects

Azerbaijan and Iran established a working group to implement joint projects in the alternative energy sector, the deputy head of Azerbaijan's State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources, Jamil Melikov said.

He said the working group was created as part of the memorandum signed with the energy ministry of Iran.

"The working group will engage in organizational matters," said Melikov. "It will offer various projects and discuss bringing investors, specialists from both sides, give recommendations so that through our joint efforts we can implement projects in Azerbaijan and Iran."

Melikov added that the said memorandum also provides for a mutual exchange of information on the projects that are being implemented or the ones planned to be implemented in each of the two countries.
