Review of construction sector in Azerbaijan (january-june 2015)

The construction work volume decreased by 21.53 percent and hit 2.88 billion manat in Azerbaijan in January-June 2015 compared to the same period of 2014, according to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

Some 65.5 percent of the total volume of construction work accounted for primary construction, reconstruction and expansion, 16.9 percent - overhaul, 4.3 percent - current repair and 13.3 percent - other construction work.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, around 146,600 square meters of housing were commissioned in June 2015 compared to 201,960 square meters in the same period of 2014.

Around 870,380 square meters of housing were commissioned in January-June 2015 or by 5.55 percent more than in the same period of 2014.

According to MBA Group consulting company, the prices began falling on the housing market of Baku amid the practical suspension of transactions. The prices have reduced on the market since April because of a lack of demand.

The price remains at the same level on the primary housing market. The prices began falling by 5 percent in April and by 4 percent on the secondary market in May.

Construction material market

The companies engaged in building material production in Azerbaijan, produced goods worth 234.7 million manat in January-June 2015, or 19.4 percent more than in the same period of 2014, according to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report.

During this period, Azerbaijan produced 1.39 million metric tons of cement (a 0.6-percent increase versus the same period of 2014) and 92,200 metric tons of gypsum plaster (a 1.3-percent growth), the report said.

Azerbaijan also produced 521,300 metric tons of ready-mixed concrete (a 28.5 percent decrease), 196,500 metric tons of asphalt (a 31.2 percent growth), 8,400 cubic meters of precast concrete building structures (a 47.2 percent decrease), 6,180 metric tons of processed marble, travertine, alabaster and items made of them (a 3.5 times growth).
