Population's income

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 19.826 billion manat in January-June 2015, which is 6.2 percent more compared to January-June 2014.

Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 4.9 percent and hit 2087,2 manat.

The population's income after paying all required fees and membership fees made up 17.952 billion manat, which is 6.2 percent more than in January-June 2014. Real income per capita increased by 4.9 percent to 1.890 manat.

Azerbaijani citizens spent 74.2 percent of income on goods and services, 9.4 percent - to pay for taxes, duties, social and insurance fees, 2.4 percent - to pay off the loans and compulsory membership fees, 14 percent - to accumulate the capital.

The population's expenditure amounted to 17.051 billion manat in January-June 2015 or 2.775 billion manat less than the income of the population.

The gap in income and expenditure of the population in favor of income testifies to the growth of material well-being of Azerbaijani citizens. The differentiation in the population's income and the availability of the Gini coefficient in the country should be taken into account.

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-June 2015 comprised 454.8 manat compared to 438.1 manat in January-June 2014.

Remuneration in the oil sector reached 2047,5 manat per month, the non-oil sector - 415,5 manat, the public sector - 351,8 manat, the private sector - 599 manat as of June 1, 2015.

The highest salary was observed in the mining industry, financial, information and communication, scientific and technical activity, as well as the construction sectors.

Around 91,900 people were involved in the Azerbaijani construction sector in January-June 2015. The average monthly salary in the construction sector amounted to 666 manat, which is 7.7 percent more than in the same period of 2014.

The average monthly salary in state sector amounted to 482.7 manat (a 3.2 percent decrease per year), private companies - 733.1 manat (with an increase of 9.1 percent).

The level of wages in the construction of buildings decreased by 3.6 percent in January-June 2015 - an average of 534.2 manat, specialized construction (increased by 35.3 percent) - up to 1198,8 manat compared to the same period of 2014.

Labor market

As of July 1, 2015, the economically active population totaled 4.867.7 million people, of which 4.631.5 million people were engaged in labour activity.

Thus, as of July 1, 2015, the number of hired employees hit 1.505.6 million people, including 875,000 people worked in the public sector, and 603,600 people - in private sector.

The number of people working in the oil sector amounted to 35,300 people, in the non-oil sector - 1.470 million people. Around 1.461 million people among hired employees work in non-agricultural sphere.

Around 21.8 percent fall to the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 6.7 percent in construction, 6.5 percent in manufacturing industry, 2.9 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.3 percent - in the mining industry, 1.7 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 1.7 percent - in water supply, waste recycling, 22.4 percent in education, 18.9 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.8 percent - medical and social services, 6.7 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.6 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.8 percent - professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.7 percent - communication and information, 2.3 percent - financial and insurance activities, 0.9 percent - real estate transactions, 1.6 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.5 percent - tourist accommodation and catering and 1.2 percent - other areas.

As of July 1, 2015, some 29,100 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 38.8 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report said.

The number of unemployed in the country decreased by 21.1 percent since early 2015 compared to the same period of 2014.

During this period, some 13,700 of 27,700 people who applied to the employment centers were provided with jobs. At the same time, some 2,120 people were registered as unemployed, 2,320 - received the unemployment benefits, 1,800 people - were involved in professional training and additional education courses. Some 650 people were provided with jobs at job fairs organized by the Labour Exchange in 11 cities and districts of the republic, Azerbaijani Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslimov said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers chaired by President Aliyev.

The meeting was dedicated to the socio-economic development in the first six months of 2015 and the upcoming challenges.

He said that Azerbaijan is among the countries with low youth unemployment.

"The unemployment rate among young people aged 15-24 is 13.5 percent in Azerbaijan," he said. "But this index is 20.6 percent in the EU. The UN has included Azerbaijan in the list of leading countries on youth employment. Moreover, this year, Azerbaijan has been among 41 countries in the information on the website of the International Labour Organization, having a comprehensive legal framework, practical work experience in the field of effective youth employment. However, there is a need in the preparation of special projects to improve youth employment, as well as in increasing the number of active employment measures to create flexible vocational education for young people in accordance with the requirements of the labor market."

In June 2015, the unemployment benefit in Azerbaijan increased by 1.6 percent compared to May. The real amount of the benefit increased by 2.7 percent given the negative inflation per month (1.1 percent). The average monthly amount of the unemployment benefit in Azerbaijan is 243.4 manat.

As of July 1, some 2,289 people got this benefit compared to 2,207 people as of June 1 and 613 people as of January 1, 2015.

Social Security

According to the State Social Protection Fund, as of July 1, 2015, the average amount of pensions amounted to 175.1 manat.

The ratio of the average amount of age pension in the country compared to the amount of the average monthly salary was more than 43 percent, which is fully compliant with the European Social Charter.

The share of transfers from the state budget to the DSMF budget decreased as a result of the growth in revenues from compulsory social insurance contributions from non-state companies. The growth of volume of revenues to the fund allowed financing pensions and benefits each month ahead of the schedule.
