Agriculture in Azerbaijan (january-july 2015)

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 3.5 billion manat in Azerbaijan in January-July 2015 or by 8.9 percent more compared to the same period of last year.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of seven months, during this period the livestock production increased by 2.4 percent, crop production - by 15.8 percent.

As of June 1, 2015, the sown areas were registered in Azerbaijan. The total area of the sown areas of the country hit 1,585 hectares, which is 1.78 percent less than in the same period of last year.

The number of sown areas decreased during the reporting period of this year compared to the same period of last year. The reason is that some 3,500 hectares of 902,300 hectares of wheat crops were completely destroyed. Some 4,800 hectares accounted for spring crops, 5,100 hectares were reserved for fodder.

A 1.59 million hectare area has been sown in Azerbaijan since early 2015, which is 1.8 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Some ​​951,600 hectares of the entire sown area accounted for grain and legumes, 38,800 hectares - technical plants (cotton, tobacco, sugar beet, etc.), 166,000 hectares - potatoes, vegetables, melons and gourds, 428,600 hectares - fodder.

As of August 1, 2015, some 2.77 million metric tons of grain, 506,800 metric tons of potatoes, 765,400 metric tons of vegetables, 356,400 metric tons of melons and gourds, 179,700 metric tons of fruits and berries, 3,201 metric tons of grapes, 363.6 metric tons of tea, 1,496 metric tons of tobacco were gathered. This is 28.2, 8.7, 6.6, 9.6, 1.8, 0.9, 14.8 and 20.1 percent more than in the same period of 2014 respectively.

The grain harvesting almost completed in Azerbaijan. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of August 10, the harvesting completed at 99.8 percent of the grain areas (915,212 hectares).

As a result, the gross yield amounted to 2,781,834 metric tons and the yield reached 30.5 quintals per hectare. A year earlier, some 2,166,824 metric tons with an average yield of 22.8 quintal / ha were gathered.

The largest yield (39.9 quintal / ha) was observed in Barda district (47,890 metric tons) and Saatli district (77,447 metric tons).

Cattle breeding

So, the production of meat hit 256,900 metric tons, milk - 1.14 million metric tons, 15,600 metric tons of wool and 898 million eggs in January-July 2015.

Meat production increased by 1.8 percent, milk - by 3.7 percent, wool - 1.8 percent, eggs - by 1 percent in the country during this period compared to January-July 2014.
