President Ilham Aliyev, first lady arrive in France on a working visit

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva have arrived in France on a working visit to attend the Leaders' Forum at the 38th Session of UNESCO General Conference.

At Paris Orly International Airport, the head of state and his wife were greeted by top-ranking state and government officials of France.

Ambassador: Iran's economic co-op with Azerbaijan to expand after sanctions removed

Full removal of sanctions on Iran will further expand the country's possibilities for economic cooperation with Azerbaijan, according to Mohsen Pak Ayeen, Iran's ambassador in Baku.

Pak Ayeen, addressing the Azerbaijan-Iran Business Forum, said Azerbaijan and Iran have many priority areas for cooperation. He also expressed readiness to provide all possible support to Azerbaijani and Iranian businessmen, who want to establish cooperation.

Rufat Mammadov, Head of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO), said in his turn that currently 480 companies operate in Azerbaijan on Iranian capital, and the volume of Iranian investments in the country stands at around $760 million.

The business forum, organized by AZPROMO and Iran's Pars Pegah Tejarat, was attended by over 200 businessmen from both countries working in the oil and gas sector, in chemical industry, agriculture, food industry, construction, engineering and various other areas.

Greece to encourage Southern Gas Corridor implementation

The Greek government intends to encourage and actively support the process of attracting foreign investments, particularly as part of the execution of the Southern Gas Corridor project, Greek Deputy Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations Dimitris Mardas said. Mardas made this statement at a meeting with the delegations of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and BP, the Greek foreign ministry stated.
Giorgos Tsipras, the secretary general for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation under the Greek foreign ministry, and Rahman Mustafayev, Azerbaijani ambassador to Athens, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, representatives of BP and SOCAR reported on the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project and construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

US supports women's entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan

The US is working on expanding the economic opportunities for female entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan, the US ambassador to the country Robert Cekuta said. He made the remarks during the conference on "Development of women's entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan."

The conference is being held as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week with financial support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Representatives of government and public structures, diplomatic missions, international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan are participating in the event. During the conference, the ambassador pointed out that the US is ready to render assistance to Azerbaijan in this sphere.

Azerbaijan's banking sector to work upon new strategy in 2016

Azerbaijan will work out a new strategy for the development of the banking sector, aimed at supporting entrepreneurship in the country. The relevant issue was discussed at a meeting of the presidium of the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan and chairman of the Central Bank Elman Rustamov.

"The sides exchanged the views on the preparation of a new strategy in connection with the preparation of the plan of activity of Azerbaijani banks in 2016, the definition of strategic objectives, corresponding to the current market conditions and requirements," a statement said.

Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan mull economic co-op issues

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have discussed the prospects for implementing mutually beneficial joint projects, in particular those in the fuel and energy sphere. The discussions were held during the meeting between the head of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev and Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, Turkmen state news agency reported. SOCAR president is on a visit to Ashgabat to participate in the international exhibition and conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" (OGT-2015).

US ready to assist Azerbaijan in stimulating private sector

The US supports the measures taken by Azerbaijani government to develop the private sector in the country, the US Charge d'Affaires to the country Dereck Hogan told reporters.

He made the remarks during Azerbaijan-US business forum in Baku with participation of the US businessmen delegation which is on a visit to the country.

The US welcomes the stimulation of development of the private sector in Azerbaijan, as well as the work carried out by the country to attract foreign investments, according to Hogan.

He added that the US is ready to render not only diplomatic, but also technical assistance so that the goals set by Azerbaijani government would be achieved.

Hogan said that very constructive meetings have been held as part of the US delegation's visit to Baku.

Azerbaijan invites Iran to use its logistics center in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan has invited Iran to use its logistics center in Kazakh Aktau city.

The proposal was announced at the meeting of Minister of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev with the delegation headed by Governor of Iranian Gilan province Mohammadali Najafi. In addition, the issue of holding the next Azerbaijani-Iranian business forum and exhibition was raised during the meeting as part of the next visit of the Iranian delegation. Shahin Mustafayev said that in the first quarter of 2016, it is planned to complete the first phase of the coordination project for the construction of the railway between Azerbaijan and Iran. He also stressed that the Bilasuvar and Astara border checkpoints will move to the 24-hour operation.

President Aliyev receives Russian minister of education and science

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov. President Aliyev stressed the importance of holding the first graduation ceremony at Baku branch of Moscow State University named after Mikhail Lomonosov, as well as the opening of Baku branch of First Moscow State Medical University named after Ivan Sechenov in the country. The president emphasized the significance of defining other forms of cooperation in the field of education.
