The autumn-winter field work was completed successfully. Some 1.045 million hectares were plowed to get the harvest in 2016. Some 944,600 hectares (90.4 percent) were sown for grain and green fodder. A 927,400 hectare-area (98.2 percent) was sown for cereals. Some 583,000 hectares (62.9 percent) accounted for wheat, 344,400 hectares (37.1 percent) - barley.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the areas sown for wheat and barley increased by 8.5 and 1.8 percent respectively compared to 2014.
During the reporting period some 515,600 tons of meat in live weight, 1.92 million tons of milk, 1.54 billion pieces of eggs and 17,000 tons of wool were produced. Meat production y increased by two percent, milk - by 3.7 percent, wool - by 1.4 percent, the production of eggs decreased by 1.5 percent in the country in 2015.
The reason for the reduction in egg production in the country is a drop in egg production at large poultry farms. As a result of the rise in prices on feed and medicines for chickens, old chickens were replaced by young birds at most of farms. Some farms began producing only chicken meat. As a result, the share of agricultural enterprises producing eggs declined from 45.1 in 2014 to 41.3 percent in 2015.
As of early 2016, there were 2,708,500 heads of cattle in the livestock sector of Azerbaijan, including 1,303,100 million cows and buffaloes, 8,674,800 sheep and goats and 5,077 pigs.
