Azerbaijan has once again shined by successfully holding the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Elkhan Alasgarov, PhD, head of the Expert Council of the Baku International Policy and Security Network (Baku Network), told Trend.

“The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games were successfully held despite the enmity among the Islamic countries, conflicts in the world,” he added.

The expert said Azerbaijan invited all Muslim countries for the Games.

“This invitation was accepted by all Muslim countries,” Alasgarov said. “This is mainly connected with Azerbaijan’s neutral foreign policy, aimed at friendship and cooperation.”

“Athletes from 54 countries participated in Baku 2017, and Azerbaijan took the lead in medal standings,” Alasgarov said, adding this testifies to the fact that Azerbaijan was able to create an effective system for development of sports over 25 years of its independence.

“The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games were also economically beneficial to Azerbaijan,” he said. “Thousands of tourists and members of the foreign delegations arrived in Azerbaijan. All this is the result of a successful policy of the Azerbaijani leadership.”

“Azerbaijan is on the right path,” he said. “The successful foreign and domestic policies allow Azerbaijan developing and moving forward.”

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games were held in Baku May 8-22. Azerbaijan took the lead in medal standings at the Games as Azerbaijani athletes won 75 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals.
