At present, there are up to 8,000 exhibits in the funds of a carpet museum in Ashgabat, including the smallest carpet - 0.01 square meters, and the largest one in the world. A 301 square meters giant-carpet weighs 1.2 tons. It is included in the book of Guinness World Records, the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" said on September 1.

The article is devoted to establishment of a new museum and the office of Turkmenhali state corporation (Turkmen carpet), built by the French company Bouygues. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov has recently attended the ceremony.
The state corporation told Trend that the contract for the construction of facilities is estimated at $35 million.

In its turn, the newspaper emphasizes that the most vivid exhibits of the museum are the giant carpets. Two walls in a special room decorate 190 square meters hand-painting "Turkmen Kalba (Turkmen sanctuary), which is the first in the history of carpet weaving. It was woven in the Great Patriotic War, and finally carpet masterpiece of the new millennium, which is included into the World Book of Records.

"The most important task of the museum is to put the study of famous skill during centuries on a truly scientific basis to ensure its further continuity, based on the true artistic and technical traditions of carpet weaving," Berdimukhamedov said.

The Museum of Turkmen Carpet was established in 1993. Now its exposition includes more than 2,000 rare man-made masterpieces. There are the historical curiosities of XVI-XIX centuries and the modern analogues that are also perfect, samples of the newest trends in carpet making - double-sided fabric, and carpets with elements of the relief method of weaving, portrait, narrative and landscape.
