Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Baghdad on an official visit on Thursday to meet with Iraqi leaders with the aim of signing agreements of cooperation between the two countries, Xinhua reported.

Earlier, Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said in a press release that Erdogan, who is heading a large Turkish delegation, "will meet with his Iraqi counterpart Nuri al-Maliki and President Jalal Talabani, and will sign a number of memorandums of understanding between the two countries."

The bilateral meetings between the two sides will aim at activating the Supreme Council for strategic cooperation, which was jointly established by the two countries during Erdogan's first visit to Baghdad on July 10, 2008.
